The Selection Process for Super Lawyers
Super Lawyers uses a four-step selection process to give attorneys of all ages and experience a chance to receive this rare distinction. First, an attorney must be nominated by their legal peers. Mr. Maltese is grateful for the honor bestowed upon him by his colleagues and he would like to express his heartfelt gratitude to each of them. Each qualified candidate in the following 12 categories is then subjected to a thorough investigation by the Super Lawyers committee:
Verdicts/Settlements
Transactions
Representative Clients
Experience
Honors/Awards
Special licenses/certifications
Position within the law firm
Bar and/or professional activity
Pro bono and community service
Scholarly lectures/writings
Education/employment background
Other outstanding achievements
The committee then examines each candidate’s background to make sure they have conducted themselves with dignity, respect, and professionalism. This is a critical part of the process and Attorney Maltese is honored to be considered a model attorney
Finally, the nominated attorney is subjected to what is known as a “blue ribbon review.” Final candidates are evaluated for their specific practice area by their peers and the panel for this review is made up of the best candidates from the previous two reviews who did not advance. At that point, finalists are chosen based on firm size, allowing independent practicing attorneys the same opportunities as larger firm lawyers. As a result, up to 5% of attorneys in each state are named Super Lawyers for the year.
